Scaling PPV Campaigns
Some campaigns profit almost immediately with minimal work, while others require considerable babysitting and optimization. Either way, your profits will inevitably plateau and you'll start asking, "how do I scale my campaign up?" Hitting this wall can be extremely frustrating, even more so if you have a great campaign and you feel like you're just missing that one key ingredient to unleash its true earning potential. Don't sit on it thinking you'll figure it out another day, this industry moves fast and every day you put off working on your campaigns is a day that the competition has up on you. Not all campaigns are created equal so when you have a winner, you owe it to yourself to take it to the bank.
Efficiency is key - you need to scale quickly and effectively. One of my favorite techniques for scaling up a campaign involves tweaking the rankings. I'm going to use TrafficVance as our example PPV traffic source, since that's what I'm most comfortable with; however, I believe most other PPV sources have some sort of ranking system to let you know the level of competition per target. Large targets sometimes have 30 - 100 bidders on them. As a result, some of my favorite URL targets can get extremely competitive. If you have ever made the mistake of forgetting a zero, and getting top rank on a high-traffic target, you know how quickly your balance can disappear. Many people would view something like this as a terrible nightmare, but this is actually one of the best ways to turn a serious profit. If you are positive that you campaign will profit, then you need to spend the cash and get one of the top three rankings on your target. This is the only way to increase the traffic drastically and get volume off of the target. You can find these targets by contacting your Account Manager and asking them to assist you. Tip: Remember that on TV, ranks 1 through 3 deliver almost the same traffic if the target has a full activity bar! Don't spend cash you don't have to.
Often times you can find targets through scrapers that no one else is using. URL's and keywords that are obscure are sometimes the highest converting because the user is very dialed in and in the mindset to purchase or sign up for something. Low traffic URL's are strong in numbers and typically cost less resulting in greater ROI. This is also a very effective way to build up your campaigns if you aren't comfortable loading up your account and achieving a high rank on a high traffic target. It is critical that you invest your time in researching your data on Quantcast and find targets with similar interests that may not be being targeted as heavily. These finds are goldmines in the sense that you can get the same exact traffic for a penny that others are fighting over, and get delivered almost every time!
You can also scale your PPV campaigns by trying new PPV traffic sources once you have a solid target list. You can try Adon, TrafficVance, DirectCPV, MediaTraffic, LeadImpact, Linksador, and CPVMarketplace and Adoori. If you're only signed up with one network, you may be shortchanging yourself. A lot of these networks have different user bases, so it's advised that you do a little bit of research and figure out the source of each of these network's traffic before funneling money into them. For instance, a traffic source with a wallpaper download backend would convert far different on a credit report offer than one with a different backend. Some networks serve pop-ups while others serve pop-unders. Some allow audio/visual and page resizing, where others don't to protect the integrity of their client base. Do some research and find the right networks for you.
